BARON URYEN MAKES AN OFFER TO THE RED SCARF

Dateline: 7-6-517

Is the Red Scarf going to accept an alliance with the self-styled ‘Ruler of Free Bereny’?

The outlawed rebel baron Uryen d’Agrillac, still at large in western Moonward, has made an astonishing offer to the secret anti-monarchist organisation known as the Red Scarf.

“I understand that like myself you object to the current rulership of Bereny,” Uryen said in his offer. “I would like to extend the olive branch to you and invite you to join me in fighting against the usurper for a better Bereny.”

Uryen went on to ask for information on the location of Crown forces, and showed a particular interest in supply convoys. He claimed that his forces had already been victorious over a unit of Rangers from the Royal Army.

The ‘olive branch’ that Uryen proposes is that the Kingdom of Bereny be dismembered between himself and the Red Scarf. As yet the Red Scarf have made no public response, but that in itself is suspicious as the organisation’s rabidly anti-feudal leadership have previously been quick to denounce the nobility in general and Uryen in particular, leading some to conclude that they have secretly made a deal with the rebel baron.

Uryen has recently taken to describing himself as ‘General of the Free Bereny Freedom fighters’ and ‘Ruler of Free Bereny’, titles that echo some of the Red Scarf’s rhetoric against Bereny’s established feudal order.

Although the red Scarf were accused of being behind a number of localised peasant uprisings on estates a few years ago, they have posed very little threat to the the Crown recently. This has been attributed to their leadership being thrown into disarray following the defection of one of their senior leaders, and they now seem to command much less popular support than they used to.

However there have been reports of gangs of rebellious peasants in Crownheart recently among the many refugees forced into the city walls by the Helltroop attack, and Red Scarf slogans and symbols have started appearing daubed on walls.

In an unfortunate recent incident a small group of individuals shouting Red Scarf slogans exposed themselves to the King, apparently as a form of protest. However they then had to flee from a mob of outraged Crownheart citizens who threatened to do injury to the parts of their anatomy that had been exposed, and were arrested by the city guards as much for their own protection as for anything else. The King is said to have laughed the incident off.
